It seemed wholly appropriate – given that both the owners of Russell Roads and their employees (largely) are tangata whenua – that we rebrand Russell Roads with a Māori name. But we needed to be respectful and take great care in doing this.

To that end, we consulted with both Māori academics and representatives of local iwi to ensure that the name options we were putting forward were appropriate and respectful.
